Need to crackdown on drunk driving and over-speeding

It has now been established beyond a shade of doubt, that over-speeding and driving under the influence of liquor are the two main causes for the spate of road accidents on Goa roads. Except for Panaji city, which is now a bombed city with sunken roads under the Smart City project, the overall  condition of roads in Goa has shown a marked improvement after the filling of  potholes and hot mixing works  undertaken by the PWD.

The RTO in Goa should now focus on over-speeding and drunk driving, instead of going after other minor traffic violations by motorists. A case in point is the recent accident on the newly opened Zuari bridge , where a  motorcyclist was knocked down by a speeding  vehicle. Similar cases have been reported on the old Zuari bridge where tragic  accidents have been reported due to drunk driving and speeds over 160 kmph. The onus is now on the traffic police to use all the weapons in its armoury to put an end to these frequent accidents which appear to be spinning out of control on Goa roads.
