Overflowing sewage chambers pose major health hazard

During the monsoon when there is a continuous heavy downpour it is not only the flooding of roads and landslides that are a cause of worry. In the various cities in the state there could be instances of overflowing of the sewage chambers which is many a time overlooked. The overflowing of the underground sewage chambers could be either because the sewage chambers are choked with waste or infiltration of rainwater into the underground sewerage line as a result of substandard work. This can prove dangerous for citizens who use the water from the tap either for cooking or drinking. Sewage water mixing with the rainwater on the roads can spread disease to those who come in contact with this water. Hence overflowing sewage chambers and leaking sewerage pipelines must be considered a health hazard.  It is prudent to clear choked sewage chambers and fix any leakage in the sewerage pipeline so that the rainwater does not enter it leading to overflowing of the sewage chambers and contamination of drinking water.
