Roads in the cities are usually congested due to the increase in the traffic. However things become worse when even one of the roads is closed in order to organize a government function or even a public programme on the road. Road users are hence put to great inconvenience as they move about in the city in their vehicles for personal work. Whenever a road is closed for a public function it seems prudent for all the nearby roads and lanes, which allow the movement of one-way traffic, to be opened for traffic entering both ways. The movement of traffic both ways along all one-way roads needs to be allowed even if a single road is closed down for a function till such time that it is over. It would be desirable for the traffic police not to penalize vehicular drivers for entering the one-way road from the wrong side. Alternatively all public and government functions need to be conducted on open grounds or space earmarked for public functions.
