The PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral has announced that part of the Zuari bridge will be thrown open in a couple of months, and that is a good news.
What Cabral must focus on in the interim is the condition of roads and the fact that there is no illumination. The Agassaim-Siridao stretch of road is completely in the dark and vehicles are left groping in the dark making it a risky proposition.
The wide 6-lane highway allows motorists to speed away and indulge in reckless overtaking adding to the risks. Under the current circumstances the only "guiding" light is from the vehicles and that is unfortunate for a State that is boasting of road infrastructure.
It's time that Cabral must move and ensure that these grey areas are ironed out even if they are in another department's domain. It could be a question of life and death for motorists and unlike the ghastly mishap over the Zuari bridge that claimed four lives, the government should not wait for mishaps to put systems in place. Think of the welfare of citizens as part of good governance.
