The recent incidents of crimes in Goa have brought forward a important question, could these have been prevented? Certainly, the answer that comes to one’s mind is law enforcement. They could have stopped all of these, but the truth is no.
It seems taking a life is more or less a matter of circumstances now. Otherwise, how can one explain the utter lawlessness in the State. A mother is able to casually leave the State with a dead body in tow, all this just a few months after a girl’s body was transported outside the border to be dumped in the ghats. In another case, a man is able to conjure the idea of passing off his wife’s murder as an accident. As long as criminals keep going unpunished or receive lenient sentences, there is no hope of deterring serious crimes.
