Shortage of staff in govt departments

It is quite common to face staff shortages when visiting government offices. Many employees share their concerns about the lack of manpower and the extra workload they have to handle. Several government departments in the State are struggling due to serious staff shortages, which affects their ability to provide proper services and manage work efficiently.

Departments like the Police, PWD, Health, and the University urgently need fresh recruitment. The situation has worsened because the government has not hired new staff for a long time, while many existing employees are retiring. Simply extending service or re-employing retired officials is not a long-term solution and needs to be reviewed.

Rising crime, population growth, and increasing traffic clearly show that the police force is not growing in proportion. The number of police officers has stayed the same for years, even though more are needed. The government has not increased their strength, mostly due to concerns over the cost.

There should be a proper assessment of the number of doctors and paramedical staff needed in each area. Hospitals must have enough staff, as per the Indian Public Health Standards or guidelines from the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The government should fill vacancies without delay through bodies like the GPSC or SSC. Recruitment must be carried out with honesty and transparency. It should be a top priority to ensure all departments are fully staffed to serve the public better.
