If the authorities are truly committed to keeping Goa clean, their priority should be providing garbage bins in public places. Even in markets, cleaners often overturn the bins at the end of the day to discourage people from disposing of their waste.
Many panchayats in semi-urban areas and villages in Goa still lack waste collection services. The government could set up composting facilities where households can drop off their wet waste at designated locations. At the very least, this measure is needed until proper garbage collection is established in each panchayat ward.Tourism stakeholders should push for these solutions, as the growing problem of roadside litter is slowly but surely damaging the industry.
