Margao faces tough time during rainy season. The collapse of portion of building belonging to Urban health centre, Margao opposite Hospicio hospital is an eye opener for government. The incident took place early morning around 3 am on Saturday and luckily no casualties except two parked vehicles damaged. All buildings more than 15 to 20 yrs old should be under the scanner and structural audit must be conducted which will help the department to take action. In Margao we have old houses and buildings built during Portuguese time but though their construction is strong we one cannot avoid maintenance and periodical tests of building. Every building which are more than 15 to 20 yrs including housing societies should have the audit regards to structure. Repairs for all schools and colleges should be undertaken in the month of May and June itself. The government should make budget provision for structural audit on all government premises , schools and colleges, educational institutions so as to avoid mishaps. Hope the government is serious on pre-monsoon measures to be taken to save lives and livestock.
