CANACONA
A delegation of the Biodiversity Council from Ladakh visited Canacona on Saturday.
Besides visiting different sites in Canacona, the delegation also interacted with various Biodiversity Management Councils (BMC) in Canacona.
The BMC Shristhal led by Chairman Vinay Tubki took the Ladakh delegation on a tour of the Chapoli Dam, Nagar-Van, Jermal Tree and the Shri Mallikarjun temple in Shristhal.
The delegation also discussed about the functioning of the Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee.
Shristhal BMC member Shirish Pai explained the various activities of the BMC, while another member Damodar Chari also spoke at the brief interactive function organised by Shristhal BMC.
Canacona BDO Anil Naik also visited and interacted with the Ladakh delegation.
The delegation also visited Agonda and were shown a ‘Davarne’ at Mudkud and project to restore the beach at Val-Agonda. They later participated in the Vanamahotsav along with Agonda Sarpanch Preetal Fernandes and BMC Agonda Chairperson Shaba Desai, BMC Members Suraj Naik Gaonkar, Vinod Phaldessai, Ex-sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues and other members.
The Ladakh delegation, which was led by UNDP SECURE Himalaya Project Officer Tanuj Nagpal, also visited the age-old Banyan Tree at Partgal Mutt and the Nursery as well as Fish Aquarium at Hatipal Forest.
The Ladakh delegation had arrived in the State on visit under the UNDP SECURE Himalaya Project. The team included Project Officer Tanuj Nagpal, UNDP SECURE Himalaya Project UNV Stanzin Namdol, UNDP Community Mobilizer Palzes Angmo, BMC Chairperson Thinles Angmo, BMC Chairperson Sonam Targais, BMC Chairperson Tsering Dawa, BMC Secretary Tsetan Dorjai, BMC Secretary Saleem Raza, BMC Secretary Farida Bano and BMC Member Tsering Chosdon.
