Dhirio is banned in Goa but still there are instances of bullfights organised in various village areas. The bullfight is one of the oldest form of animal sports which involves man too. Dhirio is not a safe sport as it is risky to lives of those handling the animal and the spectators who come to see the sport. It is unfortunate to hear the loss of life of one Zenito Vaz from Varca who succumbed to injuries due to bullfight. The family members claim that he had gone to feed the bovine but the fact is the incident happened due to bullfight organised at Benaulim. It's time to stop such bullfights in villages and also in areas where people are prone to see the same. After road accidents and deaths throughout the year, the said incident is another accident off the road which is a matter of concern. The government should take strong action against organisers of the sport and pass a bill to ban such activities and sports where animal and man is involved.
