Dr Jack De Sequeira was Goa's first leader of the Opposition when the Goa, Daman and Diu Legislative Assembly was launched in 1963. He was born to Goan parents in British Burma, and shaped politics in Goa during the 1960s and 1970s in particular. The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party wanted to merge Goa into the newly formed state of Maharashtra whereas United Goans Party wanted to retain independent identity of Goa. Dr Sequeira, along with others in Goa opposed the same which led to Opinion Poll, where majority of Goans chose to retain the state's identity with the former territory later attaining statehood. Today and in the past, we have seen the current government of Goa trying to ruin our beautiful state. Let us unitedly decide, like the father of opinion poll and push for special status for our state.
