Traffic signal devices are made and designed to work on electric power and not solar or manpower. If power snaps electric signals will also snap and the heavy traffic movement during normal or peak hours will come under serious pressure. Four days back that is on May 26, I was driving from my place to Goa Velha via the Mandovi bridge. At about 9.20 am when I reached the first Mandovi bridge signal junction not a single traffic cop was seen and also nobody was in the traffic control room. Further on my entire journey no traffic cops were visible on the roads. Yes, during the Road safety week when asked on enforcement issue, the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) said that manpower is short. If so, question is how does the number of fines on road violations show a net increase. In the Middle East even after small accidents, traffic cops (police) reach the site in few minutes but in Goa when accident victim is lying in a pool of blood and about to breathe his last that the traffic cops (police) reach the site to conduct panchanama.
