Was the disaster at Wayanad avoidable?

A landslide occurred near Meenakshi Bridge at Kaladi, where a road tunnel is being built to connect Kozhikode and Wayanad districts in Kerala. A rain-soaked mound of excavated earth collapsed, killing three people, injuring 10 and leaving five missing. The victims were engineers and security staff. Ministers called it a “man-made” landslide. The incident may have been avoided with greater caution during the monsoon, including safer dumping of excavated earth and stricter monitoring.
