The Rs 2,000 denomination note was introduced in November 2016 after demonetisation led to Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes getting banned. There are concerns whether they are being used to hoard black money by crooks and racketeers. The Rs 2,000 note is the highest denomination currency in India. The suffering peoples have endured due to demonetisation can’t be forgotten. People had lost their lives, and businesses had collapsed. It didn’t help to end corruption, terrorism. Printing of Rs 2,000 notes was stopped in 2018-19. However, currency notes will continue to be legal tender till September 30. The process of exchange and/or return of notes will begin from May 23. The public will be allowed to deposit Rs 2,000 banknotes into their bank accounts and/or exchange them with banknotes of other denominations at any bank until September 30, 2023. It may be noted that the "Clean Note Policy" of the RBI is to ensure the availability of good quality banknotes to people. Now some people will start scratching their heads because they would have as usual stashed away crores.
