With a few days more for the Margao municipal council elections, candidates and Fronts are busy wooing the electorate with loads of promises.
From solving the Sonsoddo garbage issue, creating parking lots to making Fatorda a smart city and others, the voters are being promised the moon.
The moot question is can we trust them? Leaders must inspire safety and trust in the voters -- safety not only means to life but to property and environment, to livelihood, to not jumping parties and a quality of life where clutter and crowding is avoided.
Parties and candidates have promised to solve the Sonsoddo issue. But even today, MMC sweepers actually burn the swept material all along the roadsides. Why are only the roads from the municipality till KTC swept, what about Aquem, Fatorda?
There are host of other issues like house tax structure, birth/death certificates from MMC, hawkers at traffic signals, the beggars in Margao etc.
Are we electing administrators or gifting these candidates a ‘livelihood’ and their ‘leaders’ a means to get ‘their’ jobs done?
