The Karnataka government is attempting and trying to undo one of the wrongs the previous BJP government had done. The Congress party after coming to power did not hesitate and waste time in setting things right, they are contemplating repealing the controversial anti-conversion bill passed in 2022 by the Bommai government . Archbishop Rev Peter Machado of Bangalore was instrumental in coordinating to bring this anti-conversion bill into focus and ultimately get it repealed through this new government. It was absolutely essential as there was an air of apprehension prevailing amongst the Christian community as to professing their religious beliefs in peaceful and safe environment. The anti-conversion bill was discriminatory and repressive. Christians hardly account for a bare 2% of the total national population, way behind the common belief that conversions were taking place at rapid pace which is untrue. The repeal of this bill will be tabled in the house for approval and corroboration from majority vote in July.
