State is going to be loser if Virdi goes through

The new found bonhomie between CM Pramod Sawant and his Maharashtra counterpart to unitedly fight Karnataka on the Mhadei issue reeks of political opportunism, now that the BJP has lost the Karnataka elections. Goa is already in dispute with Maharashtra over the Virdi dam project which will divert more water away from the State, also the environmental impact assessment has yet to be done for the project. Our CM has gone so far as to say that the State cannot say no to Virdi. As per Sawant if the Virdi dam is constructed, Goa shall get 40% of the water which will be supplied to Bicholim and Sattari talukas. In April this year the government of Goa had issued notice to Maharashtra to stop work on the Virdi dam construction as it will obstruct flow of water into the Valvanti River that feeds atleast two water treatment plants in the state. What suddenly changed in the intervening period that Sawant is gung ho about Virdi, infact painting it as a boon to Goan farmers ? Goa is going to be the loser if Virdi goes through.
