After closure of mining activities in Goa, Tourism is now the second viable option for Goans. However the tussle between local taxi owners and app-based GoaMiles is still an issue.
Now, the government is now planning to bring in app-based aggregators like Ola, Uber at Mopa airport.
Local taximen have time and again opposed these app-based taxis but the government has brushed aside their apprehensions and has decided to go ahead with its decision.
The government should take local taximen and their Association into confidence before introducing such app aggregators.
There are thousands of taxi operators in South Goa and at Dabolim airport where pre-paid taxis operate. Mopa airport which will give a boost to local tourism should also provide local taxis to operate instead of app aggregators.
The rates should be properly fixed and local taxis need to be roped in to join app-based services which will help the tourist to travel in Goa being a holiday destination.
The tourism season is slowly kicking in and this issue needs to be settled once and for all.
