The Reserve bank of India is spending crores of rupees in advertising that all banks should exchange soiled currency notes. But it is very disheartening that many banks still do not exchange such soiled, mutilated, damaged currency notes.
Recently my friend who has account at a bank in Zuarinagar was asked to go to Vasco to exchange his mutilated currency note, but when he confronted the officer and manager that he would lodge a complaint, the manager accepted the currency stating that he will first get it checked then give him the call. If the consumer does not speak out the officers and managers put the customers at lots of hardship.
Consumers need to be alert and exercise their right to lodge a written complaint in the complaint register that every bank has to keep in their branch.
Bank managers should be asked to put notices at all bus stands and public market places that coins of Rs 10 are legitimate currency and no vendor or bus conductor can refuse to accept this.
