The Goa government attempt to look at legalizing illegal houses on Comunidade land giving the reason that it’s for Goans is totally false based on following points: What is the definition of “Goan”? Why is the government hesitant to first define the same so as to bring about transparency and also be open to suggestions for implementation on who can be defined as “Goan”? It just means a couple of years of domicile and the door opens to anyone to claim themselves as “Goan”. This proposal has at least two senior ruling party politicians/ backers whose very survival depends on illegal migrant vote banks which are on comunidade land -- so are their intentions not suspect? If the argument is true that this it definitely for “Goans” as per the right definition, is this not opening up a Pandora’s box for anyone (Goans and even non-Goans ) to start encroachment on comunidade lands knowing that the ruling politicians will work to make these illegalities legal? This particularly point makes me think that “legalizing for Goans” is a back door entry for the politicians sinister plan for power; at the expense of destroying Goa.
