BJP’s penchant to enforce schemes without thought has come to the fore with the Agnipath scheme following the same line as demonetisation/GST etc.! And the BJP casts aspersions against Gandhi and Nehru! BJP Union minister G Kishan Reddy said the scheme recruits would be trained in skills of drivers, electricians, washermen and barbers! Another BJP leader said he would employ them as watchmen for BJP offices! What else can combat trained recruits do after 4 years?
The BJP tried to kill 2 birds with one stone: fulfill their promise of 10 lakh jobs and follow Singapore, South Korea etc. in having compulsory military training. The latter countries do not guarantee jobs after the 2 year training. Unlike the 7-year Short Commission Service already in the forces, where the Officers are trained in Engg, and are much sought after the 7 years, these Agnipath recruits can only be trained in the skills disclosed by the Union Minister. This is foolhardy. Further, the age bar will ensure those who actually wished to make a career in the forces will now have to forgo the same.
