It is learnt that the panchayat of Bogmalo-Chicolna has reportedly become the first among the panchayats in the state to generate solar energy from garbage collected in the village and run its waste management unit on solar power. It is understood that the entire plant is being run on solar energy.This will reportedly help the panchayat to save on its electricity and become independent. Yet another initiative by the Bogmalo-Chicolna panchayat is the distribution of manure produced at the waste management plant to every household in the village. It is also learnt that an Organic Waste Composting machine (OWC), a baling machine and an incinerator have been installed at Nagoa recently. The three installations are expected to take care of wet, dry and sanitary waste in the village. The compost generated will be used as manure for the fields and the gardens in the village. It would be prudent for other panchayats in the state to have an OWC in its jurisdiction so that the wet waste can be locally treated and in turn reduce the burden on the dumpsites.
