On the face of it, hinterland tourism is a great idea with the obvious positives, however the horror is allowing an incompetent and totally inefficient Goa government to pursue the same; a government which allows and turns a blind eye to illegalities for obvious reasons mostly related to corruption. Just visit the current tourism hotspots in Goa and see the total mess they are in with regard to filth, garbage, sewage, so many illegal constructions, etc. And these areas have a better public view; can one imagine what will happen in the hinterlands? Just one example is the sewage filled Colva Creek and beach waters. Ironically under High Court orders, the Tourism dept is entrusted with managing the creek clean up with all stake holders, but the high flying tourism minister instead of addressing the basics is now on an ill-conceived plan to mess up the hinterlands. Guess the commissions involved in going into new things is better than maintaining the current setup. This seems to be the norm with everything the Goa ministers do.
