The BJP has reportedly lodged a complaint (of course by twisting and misinterpreting certain portions of his recent speech) with Chief Electoral Officer Ramesh Verma (IAS) over remarks of INDIA Bloc’s South Goa candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes on the Constitution to somehow get his candidature cancelled, if not disqualified.
Well, Capt Viriato, through his speech, has clearly said that the Constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950, and we were liberated only on December 19, 1961. Due to this, we Goans had no say in framing the Constitution, and it was thrust upon us while he was making his own point over a variety of issues, especially on the issue of Special Status for Goa.
He has rightly asked the BJP why the demand for Special Status, which was unanimously passed on April 16, 2013, in the Goa Assembly, has still not been fulfilled despite its government ruling the State for the last 10 years. Now, what wrong has Capt Viriato done by asking such important questions for the BJP, and where has he insulted the Constitution or spoken about breaking India through his speech?
