CCTV needed along Goa's bridges

Goa has several bridges crisscrossing the rivers which makes for easy movement of traffic. While Atal Setu bridge is the latest bridge, the new bridge across the Zuari river will be completed in a few months’ time. An eight-km-long new bridge is coming up over Khandepar river. The work on the Tiracol“Querim bridge is on. The Amona-Virdi bridge and the Rachhol-Shiroda bridge could be a reality in the near future. Then there is the Ribandar-Chorao bridge and the Camurlim-Tuem which is on the cards. Bridges have become an important part of Goa’s motorway. Hence it seems necessary to install CCTV along the new and upcoming bridges as well as the old bridges. CCTV along a bridge can serve several purposes. It can assist in the prevention and detection of crime, facilitate the identification, apprehension and prosecution of offenders in relation to crime and public order as well to aid public safety. Two-wheelers are not allowed along the Atal Setu. However this rule is being violated with impunity. An accident on a bridge can stop the movement of traffic for long hours. Live CCTV coverage can help the police reach the accident site in quick time. Several people dump bags of garbage into the river from the bridge. This can be captured by the CCTV cameras. Unfortunately the bridge is sometimes used to commit suicide. CCTV footage could help police solve such cases. Cops posted at the bridge could monitor the CCTV footage live.
