Chandor level-crossing closure a bad move

Villagers of Chandor and Guridolim are up in arms over the decision of SWR to permanent closure of manned level-crossing Gate No 18 at Chandor.

They have highlighted a host of problems. The underpass was not built as per promises and instead of the height being 3.2 mts it was made 2.68 mts.

In an emergency neither an ambulance nor a fire brigade can pass while school children and senior citizens will be affected as there is no footpath.

During the monsoon, drains can get blocked and the rain water will make the situation worse. The underpass bridge is a total disaster for traffic as there is no safety barrier at the side and divider in the middle.

Railway authorities should take note of these problems and listen to the voice of people and revoke its decision to permanently close the level crossing at Chandor.
