The churches and monuments in Old Goa are world famous and a tourist attraction. Thousands of tourists and Goans in particular flock to this place.
But of late, the maintenance especially the garbage problem paints a sorry picture of the place.
The road leading to the historical St Augustine’s tower is full of garbage.
One can see cows and crows feasting on this garbage which is a blot on the landscape. The open fire that is lit is also bad for the environment.
Signboards warning people not to throw garbage has not had any effect and people still freely dump garbage in the area.
The concerned authorities need to seriously clamp down on this menace and take steps to clean the area.
Ideally, police patrolling for some time could help arrest the problem. Let better sense prevail.
