Coronavirus vs Vaccine

These are strange times when people are fed up with the word “Covid” even though our country is facing with the second wave.  March 24 marked a year since India went into a lockdown. With cases spiking up again amidst fears of another lockdown, the government has pacified their angst of citizens that there won’t be another national-level lockdown and keeping in tandem with the new strains of the virus, the pharmaceutical companies are in a continuous process of research and development for newer models. Apart from the traditional two jab Covishield and Covaxin, a single shot nasal spray vaccine is undergoing third phase trials.

World over many more vaccines are at various stages of development for people still undecided to take the jab as they anticipate a better vaccine model will emerge against the nascent ones.

With all the necessary precautions in place to fight Covid-19, comes the unsavoury news from Pfizer that their vaccine is not designed to end the pandemic but to turn it into an endemic, with a profit motive to boot. We can thus infer in conclusion that we cannot wish away the viruses with vaccines alone but to live with them by developing herd immunity.
