Creating new district will be needless burden on State

Goa is a very small State, in fact India’s smallest State. We already have two districts which are extremely small compared to our neighbouring States of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

As every decision of the government has to be for people’s welfare, the creation of a new District cannot be pursued with political motives.

As creating a new District involves the task of setting up an entire separate administrative machinery, if the district is too small, then that administrative set up will be under-utilized. And it will be a needless recurring burden on the State.

The Goa Government must with an open mind examine the entire issue and not be guided by vested motives as carving out a new District will be creating a permanent fiscal liability on our State which is already in dire financial straits.

Our Goa could have been well governed with just 20 MLAs and a handful of ministers. But now by way of Pratapsingh Raoji Rane we have a 13th Minister and that too with nothing to do.

Goa’s longest serving MLA, who now will be better known as our longest State guest too, rejoicing in the land of too many Political Tigers.
