Defectors have been shown their place

With reference to the editorial, ‘The message is loud and clear: don’t take Goans for granted’ on The Goan Everyday, dated March 11, 2022, I have a few observations to make. First of all, people have passed the right message to the defectors. As expected, the opposition votes were split with the TMC, NCP and Aam Aadmi Party jumping into the fray and dipping their fingers into the messy pie. If there is one good thing that has emerged in this election, it is that the majority of those twelve turncoats have been shown the door. It was not one, but twelve Judasses who betrayed the trust of the people in 2017. That act of betrayal has broken the back of the Congress which was hoping to make a comeback this time around. The people of Goa, however, in their wisdom, decided otherwise. Well, the people of Goa will be responsible for their actions. Roll over now, to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Heartening to see 47% new faces

It is heartening to note that there are 47 per cent new faces in the assembly this time around. Across party lines, the electorate has opted for fresh faces as witnessed in Navelim, Vasco, Mayem, Poriem, Pernem and other constituencies. The overall verdict indicates that people have largely voted for candidates who worked diligently for the people rather than simply stamping their approval on party symbols.
