AAP allegedly brought to the notice of the Goa Police the increasing crimes against women. However, the ‘presentation’ of the memo to the Director General of Police diluted the gravity of the situation. It looks like they presented a scroll of honour to the DGP, who proudly accepted the same. The objective of AAP seems to ‘show’ the people that they are working and not to get the crime rate down. Did they seek assurances and plans for the same with a target date? No. Did they demand a regular update on the pending crimes like the rapes, murders, kidnapping? Can AAP tell us how many have gone missing in Goa this year? Did they demand how many owners of illegal massage parlours doubling as brothels have been convicted? The Delhi Commission for Women chairperson has lamented that the police never convict anyone. The DGP has just been transferred from Delhi: did they question him on this? By taking up serious problems in such a lackadaisical fashion only covers up the inefficiencies.
