Electric vehicle push: Good move by govt

Given the inevitability of electrification in the mobility space, the Goa Energy Development Agency has proposed a 'sitting study' which is basically identification of locations to set up charging stations for vehicles.

Widespread and easily accessible charging ports are an important component of extensive adoption of EVs across all segments. There is a need for multiple stakeholders including the ministry of transport, power generating / distribution companies, urban planners, engineers and domain experts to be involved in this endeavour.

Also the government should formulate conducive policies to incentivise and facilitate EV culture amongst the masses.

Traffic circulation patterns, pain points, expected saturation of EVs, availability of uninterrupted power and revenue models need to be studied to generate a list of optimal locations for charging stations in the state.

The Goa government has aimed at boosting EV adoption to at least 30% by 2025, related infrastructure and capacity building also has the potential to create @ 10,000 jobs in this sector.

Rapid adoption of EVs would bring about a significant reduction in carbon emissions and consequently ambient pollution.

This is an objective which must be vigorously pursued till its logical conclusion by all concerned.
