At present electric vehicles are in the market and the government is encouraging it to be environmentally friendly by not charging registration fee and road tax besides giving subsidies to the manufacturers. There is no need to worry about mileage for normal vehicles as there are a number of petrol stations and journeys performed by simply filling petrol. But in the case of EV mileage is very crucial while planning city to city visits. It is imperative to ensure that the battery is capable of performing the intended tour. There is no flexibility or cushion and journey is to be done under tension and tight rope. Even if the charging point is made available, it is of no use as it will take a minimum one hr to charge the battery to cover a distance of just 15kms which is not practical. It is seen some are taking advantage and giving tall assurances when EV covers only half of declared distance after spending a grand amount. There are no buyers for second hand electric vehicles at present which is a matter of concern. It is hoped that the viability will be examined before owning an EV in the long run over the present petrol vehicle so as to ascertain the committed mileage and after sales service so as not to have shocks afterwards.
