Flawed 30-year residency rule for Housing Board plots

The 30-year rule means anyone can move to Goa from outside and later claim to be a local or Goan. Is the Goa Government really interested in helping ethnic Goans? Under this policy, people can come to Goa, stay for 30 years, and then qualify as a local to get a free plot. Does Goa have enough land to give away so easily? What about the future of ethnic Goans? The cut-off should at least be the day before Goa’s liberation in 1961. With this illogical 30-year rule, the BJP government seems to be on track to displace ethnic Goans. This must be strongly opposed.

Deforestation, contruction on slopes causing landslides

Following continuous heavy rainfall, two separate landslides were reported in Mapusa on Monday. One landslide caused damage to parked scooters and a nearby house, and the road leading to a school remained blocked for several hours. In a second incident, an old house collapsed at Bastora. A few days ago, two landslides were reported at Sada and Vaddem in Vasco. It must be said that landslides have been occurring at a disturbing frequency at various places across the State.…
