South Goa villagers are objecting to the discharge of treated sewage into the River Sal. They have valid reasons as government units fail to function properly. Check out Sonsodo garbage treatment, KTC diesel buses, PWD water -- the sediment itself is above limits as also manganese- during mining operations- and even in Panjim we had untreated sewage entering the piped water! Recently, facing acute water shortages, Singapore now comes out with a beer -- NewBrew-- made from liquid recycled from sewage, filtered and pumped into Singapore’s water supply. We can do this in Goa and pump the same to the beer factories in Goa. The beer can either be sold to all the tourists or to a niche market branding it with the many urine therapies promoted by several gurus. Or the same can be used for the hotel/private swimming pools. Beer fermentation releases carbon dioxide. A beer factory in Australia is using algae -- which is responsible for 50% of the earth’s oxygen -- to convert CO2 to oxygen and more algae. Goa must insist beer factories in the State use this technology.
