Food court at Vasco park not needed

It is observed that construction activity is underway at the Municipal Children’s Park in the port town of Vasco for a proposed food court.

This move by the civic body is unwarranted as it will deprive children of playing space. Vasco city as such does not have sufficient open space for recreation. This open space in the children’s park was one of the spaces which was used for various activities in the past including musical shows, dance competitions, games, sports, etc.

If the objective for putting up the food court is to generate revenue for the civic body then it could have been set-up at another location outside the city area like the open space next to the Maimollem Lake.

If at all a food court had to be set up, the municipality could have put up a temporary structure which could be pulled down whenever necessary.

However an ugly concrete structure is coming up which looks more like a fish market, not to mention the amount of garbage it will generate. The opinion of Vascoites should have been taken regarding the project.
