Footbridge to nowhere near Miramar school

In July 2012, the iron footbridge near a school along the Miramar-Dona Paula (Dr Jack Sequeira) Road was thrown open to the public. The bridge that was built by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) at a cost of Rs1.5 crore, was hardly used by school children, their parents and even by pedestrians as it was inconvenient. Now the CCP proposes to have a structural audit from the Goa Engineering College since the bridge is severely corroded. Although in 2016 the traffic police had recommended the dismantling of the bridge, now as per an CCP official it cannot be done as the bridge is used by an advertising firm and also there is an ongoing court case. As there is a danger that the bridge may collapse without any warning, firstly the CCP should stop the firm and the government from using the bridge for advertisement till the court case is settled. Secondly, the court, CCP and government should fast-track the dismantling process considering the safety of the pedestrians and motorists before any mishaps happens.
