It isheartening to know that Dairy is celebrating its Golden Jubilee (1971-2021).Till a few years back, it was the leading and most conspicuous brand in Goa.Besides milk, it produced ghee, curd, lassi and flavoured milk. Nowadays, except for milk, the other items are a rarity. Somewhere down the years, GDlost its sheen and there are several reasons for it: infighting in themanagement committee, bad pricing paid to dairy farmers, cost of fodder, oldmachinery, alleged scams and most importantly competition from neighbouringstates. Interestingly, GD was desperate to stop Amul’s entry in Goa, but thelate CM Manohar Parrikar did not approve of the move. With its expertise offive decades, GD could have taken up the challenge to have a pan-Indiandistribution like Amul or Mother Dairy. Without crying over spilled milk, evennow GD could put its house in order. The management members need to thinkbeyond their personal interests and egos.
