Allpoliticians, elected or waiting to be elected, are, by law, required to protectthe interests of the locals. What do the people here want? They want protectionfor their land, rivers, health and jobs. If we look at the current protests,there is a failure on all these fronts. Noteworthy is the fact that locals havenot been vocal on jobs. As a result, we see companies set up here have employedpeople from other states. Most companies and even the MPT and Vedanta, recruitpeople from the home State of the CEO.
If thiswas not enough, just recently, the outgoing Lokayukta of Goa lamented that theprosecution was not in the hands of the Lokayukta, as it was in Karnataka andKerala. Opposition parties are merely making noises to take up the rulings ofthe Lokayukta. No one is interested in increasing the powers of the latter. Allthe noise they make never ends in any result. The Opposition parties are justplaying to the galleries -- a tamasha.
Recently,the Congress welcomed a St Cruz leader ostensibly to counter the formerCongress MLA who crossed over to the BJP. Did they take an undertaking from himthat he will not cross over to some other party after getting elected?
