The Goa CM Pramod Sawant stated in the Goa Assembly that 25,939 people in Goa surrendered their passports in the period January to March 2024! At this high rate, what percentage will Goans be of Goa’s population in just 3-5 years time ? It is really unacceptable as to how the Goa Government is failing in taking urgent steps to remedy the situation. Coming to Goans in general, I have noticed that it’s not only the employment/sustenance excuse, as many well to do Goans have/are also migrating. It is likely that should Goans become irrelevant in Goa, chances are high that the state could be merged with another bigger state and we can forget about any state in India having Konkani as an official language. Goa Day/Dances/Festas and under related commercial/social event’s will “most enthusiastically” continue to be celebrated abroad for sometime and then if Goan identity is finally/really lost in Goa, all this overseas “enthusiasm” will also cease. Goans really need an urgent change in mindset and attitude should we want to preserve Goa, its environment and identity.
