This is with reference to the report, "CM blames man-made factors for flooding - The Goan Everyday - July 17, 2024." The chief minister couldn't have put it straighter. Many a times it may be man-made factors like blockage of traditional drains, nullahs, neglect by local/civic bodies, concretisation of roads, enhanced scale of development, etc., that are responsible for flooding. Yes, but the buck has to stop somewhere. We cannot let things drift the way they are, with complete disaster looming ahead of us in the near future. And this is true of other cities like Mumbai where the monsoon is a nightmare for its citizens. We encroach and destroy our forests, block our wetlands, butcher trees left, right & centre for infrastructure projects, destroy our mangroves, reclaim land from the sea. And then we ask why wild animals are roaming the streets, why is there so much of heat and increasing by the day, why is the sea so rough, why is the fish catch so low, why is there no water in the wells, why is the monsoon so erratic. Yes, we are playing with Nature so, Nature is playing it back to us.
