Destruction of Goa! These are the words on almost everybody’s lips today, not just among the Goans but every one else as well. This is the topic of discussion/debate everywhere. Goa is facing a host of issues today, not just environmental but other issues as well. There is no doubt that people are getting desperate but the good part is that the people of Goa are now waking up to reality and coming out in large numbers to oppose projects affecting their very existence.
Presently, people are upset at the clearance granted for the expansion at the Mormugao Port. More recently it was the agitation against diverting waters of the Mhadei river to Karnataka. Another major issue is the double tracking project at Mollem.
Certainly, the authorities seem to be presiding over the destruction of the once beautiful Goa. And, it is not just Goa but everywhere else in the country there are several projects which are destroying the environment, the sabotage of thousands of trees at Aarey in Mumbai, for instance.The citizens need to wake up and stand up for what is right and stop the destruction of human life itself.
