Even as Shigmotsav celebrations across the State have begun, the demands from artists and performers for the government to extend the time limit of the festivities by at least one hour past the deadline of 10 pm have only gotten louder. It is pertinent to note that the folk dance and revelry associated with Shigmotsav traditions has in the past extended well past midnight. Hence it seems unfair to stop the celebrations at 10 pm due to the noise pollution rules being enforced lately. Those taking part in the float parade, especially the youth, take a lot of trouble in preparing the floats. A lot of money is also involved in making these floats. Hence winding the festivities by 10 pm seems unfair and gross injustice to the revellers and the crowds that gather to witness it. It is pertinent to note that most of the floats in the Shigmo parade are made attractive due to the light effects. Hence they need to be displayed only after dusk. The government needs to give an extension beyond 10 pm for the Shigmo parades.
