After the meeting of Justice Ferdino Rebello at Panaji, and attended by citizens across Goa in large numbers, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant declared that the government will handle only those projects as wanted by the citizens. In this case, I want to point to the Unity Mall project at Chimbel. Locals are agitated and things have reached the stage of hunger strike. Even in assembly, the issue is hotly discussed. The CM has said on record that the project is of government of Goa and is on government land. My question is are the government and citizens of Chimbel two different entities? If not then it will be prudent on part of the government to bow to the wishes of the citizens in accordance with the statement made by the Chief Minister. Another issue is the third district 'Kushavati' of Goa. Citizens from Canacona taluka want to remain in South Goa district. If their wish is granted, the only change that is required is to divide Quepem taluka at the point where it narrows down and clearly divides the said taluka into two distinct areas. By doing so, wishes of Canacona citizens will be fulfilled.
