I'm writing to express concern about the uncivilised behavior of many Indians, which is gaining notoriety globally. Personally and through social media, I've witnessed littering, trash display, haphazard parking, and disregard for queues. Other issues include overconsumption of banned plastic bags (reused for littering), water wastage, and blatant disregard for road rules (lane discipline, turn indicators, wrong-side driving). Root causes identified include flaws in early education that prioritizes exam scores over practical knowledge, societal stratification creating a "privileged" vs "duty-bound" mindset, and a lack of empathy fuelled by survival struggles due to income divide, inflation, and corruption. Solutions have been discussed, but implementation is lacking. The Swach Bharat mission was a good start, but execution has been poor, often used for PR or election campaigns. CCTV cameras aren't being utilized effectively, and public funds are wasted on ineffective solutions like Anjuna Panchayat's 'shame-boards'. Leaders need to address these issues holistically. It's time for change.
