Apropos to the report "Kejriwal's sixth guarantee to Goans is corruption-free govt." (The Goan Everyday, Dec 23, 2021). In a poll bound Goa pre-poll guarantees, assurance and promises are having a field day.
According to Aam Aadmi Party's National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, the Goa’s exchequer budget is ₹ 22,000 crore for an estimated population of 15,00,000. It is a big budget. Where is all this money going? If his AAP is voted to power, Kejriwal will ensure that these funds are spent on the development of Goa. If any MLAs - irrespective of party affiliations - are found guilty of siphoning off these funds, they will be put behind bars and monies will be recovered. These are really tall promises to make.
Surprisingly enough, instead of denying wrongdoings, misappropriation of funds or non existence of corruption in the governance of Goa, his political rivals are responding by predicting that AAP has realised that it cannot win the upcoming Goa elections. Since AAP knows that it will not form government in 2022, it is giving these grandiose pre-poll guarantees.
My mind boggles at this bravado of political players cutting across party lines. Be that as it may, Kejriwal is laughing at his opponents' schadenfreude whose days appear to be numbered.
