Today healthcare is inaccessible and unaffordable to a large population in our country. Only 35% Indians have access to healthcare leaving the rest without healthcare coverage.
The lack of adequate healthcare facilities, poor and irregular services, shortage of doctors and medically trained staffs to work in rural India are ground challenges that make healthcare inaccessible to the masses.
In India the major challenge facing healthcare access is cost and criticality. Around 70% of medical expenses is spent out of the pocket by patients in urban India. Most healthcare insurance policies are not fair and do not favour the patients.
The government must ensure that healthcare services are accessible to all without discrimination on the basis of colour, caste, creed, country, race, ethnicity and religion.
