Hung Assembly an expected reality

This is with reference to the news report ‘Exit polls predict Hung house in Goa’ (TGE, March 8).

The exit polls of different agencies have only confirmed what was earlier predicted and expected by the people of Goa, that the next govt in Goa will be a coalition govt, with no single political party in majority.

The anti-incumbency factor seems to have worked against the BJP govt, with most of the exit polls predicting an edge for the Congress over the BJP, even as the BJP has debunked the findings, confident that the party will cross the magic figure of 21 on its own.

The Congress on its part cannot afford to remain complacent and sit on a high horse as it did in the 2017 polls. A contingency plan for a post-poll alliance of like-minded parties will have to be drawn up to consolidate the party’s gains and enable it to sit pretty with a comfortable majority, that will enable  the formation of a coalition govt in Goa that will be stable and last for the  next 5 years.
