It has come to light that the Reis Magos panchayat has built a panchayat ghar which is illegal, this after the whole building was completed and functional. Our esteemed Advocate General has informed the High Court of Bombay at Goa that the panchayat secretary shall inquire into the matter to fix responsibility and the guilty punished; of course all this is simply an eyewash to pacify the public.
The building was constructed without any approval from the planning and development authorities and has not been issued an occupancy certificate; yet the premises is home to the the health authority, the village post office, talathi, electricity department and has a market and public toilets on the ground floor. The icing on the cake was the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurating the structure with much fanfare and sermons about self rule, people's power, blah blah blah...
What moral right would the Reis Magos panchayat now have to flag, seal or demolish unlawful construction in the village when it's own house (ghar) is erected in contravention of extant laws. Attention is also drawn to the bungalow built by a BJP heavyweight at Old Goa which proudly stands strong despite it's construction license being cancelled and demolition orders issued. For the saffron dispensation, illegal is the new legal and the common man can do nothing about it.
