The Goa Government is increasingly talking about “Improving Happiness Index”. My question is that is the latter only for corrupt politicians/officials, greedy and destructive real estate companies, real state sharks, specific polluting businesses/industries, coal lobby and “money bags” from outside Goa who are “gobbling up all our land and destroying the environment with it.” There as some basics if done properly can improve Happiness Index for Goans; to list a few (1) Road works only on non peak hours/night to avoid inconvenience to public, ( 2) More and well maintained areas for public and kids in particular, (3) Significant improvement in action vs corruption( including politicians/officials), (4) Prompt action on complaints of pollution/sewage release, illegalities and destruction of environment, (5) Action before courts force the govt to act against the law breakers, (6) Sincere and planned action to address the menace of traffic accidents, etc. I Am sure these are just few examples and Goans can add much more of these basic expectations! So far with what the Goa Government is doing on the subject, it looks like it is just self- marketing with the end result in absolute hypocrisy.
